ROY, Utah — A 77-year-old woman is in critical condition after being struck by a white sedan in a hit-and-run incident Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred around 3 p.m. as the woman was walking on a road just west of the Ogden Airport, an area that does not have any marked crosswalks.
According to officials from the Roy Police Department, the driver of the white sedan hit the woman before fleeing the scene. Emergency responders transported the injured woman to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in stable condition by Wednesday evening. However, authorities are still searching for the suspect responsible for the crash.
A neighbor, Kim Varney, who resides near the location of the incident, expressed concern over the area’s increasing speed limits. “I know they’re not going 25 or 30 up and down this street, no, because I can hear them,” Varney said. She explained that speeding has long been a problem on this stretch of road, with drivers regularly exceeding the posted speed limits. The speed limit was recently raised to 30 mph, further fueling concerns among residents.
Varney also voiced her shock that a more severe accident had not occurred sooner, given the ongoing issues with speeding. “Who would’ve thought this could’ve happened right here, and then for that person just to take off, it’s not right,” she added. Varney shared that she is praying for the victim’s recovery, noting the vulnerability of pedestrians in such areas.
The Roy Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward. Meanwhile, local residents are left grappling with the aftermath of the crash, with many hoping that this incident will prompt greater attention to traffic safety in the area.
As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on ensuring justice for the victim and working to prevent further accidents along the street.
