When she went in for her 12-week ultrasound, she was looking forward to hearing some updates about her baby’s growth. But she certainly wasn’t expecting doctors to be stunned and leave her speechless. The pregnant woman Kelly and her partner Joshua were amazed when they discovered they were expecting another child. But, little did they know that they were about to get an even bigger surprise. At her 12-week pregnancy scan, she learned she’s carrying two babies — in separate w0mbs. “The condition itself is quite rare, but they went on to tell me that it was a one in a 50 million chance for me to conceive twins in each womb,” the lucky mother said.
Pregnant Kelly Fairhurst discovered that she has two wombs, and each one of them is carrying a baby. The then-28-year-old mom of two said that she found out about the two wombs when she went for her 12 weeks ultrasound scan. Kelly says that she was shocked about the two wombs, and the fact that each womb is carrying a baby is crazy to her. The condition of developing two uteruses is known as uterus didelphys. Experts say that a uterus develops from two small tubes that later join to form one uterus, but if the two tubes do not join, they become double uteruses.
Although there are women who have double uteruses, having a situation where both uteruses have babies growing in them at the same time is quite rare. Kelly says that doctors told her that the chances of having such occurrences were one in 50 million. The main challenge for Kelly would be going into labour twice, and she wants to avoid this by having a Caesarean birth. Kelly, who has two daughters aged three and four years, says that both of her girls were born prematurely. Although they have twin history in her family, Kelly never imagined that she would have twins, especially in different wombs!
According to the Sun, doctors say that there is a high possibility that Kelly would have identical twins. Even though the news of having two wombs was shocking to Kelly and her 34-year-old boyfriend Joshua, Kelly says that she feels grateful that she would have two amazing babies. During her second pregnancy, she had been told that she could be having a bicornuate uterus meaning that her uterus had not fully developed. However, she was surprised to discover that she has two!
