Amazon Warehouse Set to Open After Lengthy Delay

Marriott-Slaterville, Utah —  Residents of Marriott-Slaterville, Utah, have been watching with curiosity as a large Amazon warehouse, completed in 2022, has remained dormant for more than two years. Located just east of Interstate 15, north of freeway exit 346, the facility has sparked questions from locals about its purpose and timeline for opening.

“I haven’t thought too much other than it’s a really big building just to be built and sit there,” said Taylor Sweat, a local resident. His wife, Taya, echoed similar sentiments. “I feel like it’s been a while. I feel like it first came up and we kind of questioned it and then nothing ever happened.”

The building, which was painted in the signature colors of Amazon’s distribution network, raised immediate speculation that it would be a new Amazon facility. While city officials were aware of the company’s plans to move in, they did not anticipate such a lengthy delay in opening.

“We get a lot of questions about when it’s going to open and what’s going on with it,” said Bill Morris, City Administrator for Marriott-Slaterville. “It’s been a topic of interest ever since it was completed.”

In March 2025, when KUTV visited the site, there was finally visible activity around the building. City officials confirmed that Amazon appeared to be preparing the facility for operations, with the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles and the final stages of construction underway.

“They’ve been inquiring about business licenses. As you go over there, you’ll see that they have some construction going on,” said Morris. “They’re telling us that it will be open this spring.”

Amazon confirmed that the warehouse is indeed set to open soon but did not provide specific reasons for the delays. Steve Kelly, an Amazon spokesperson, explained, “All of these facilities have to fit into our logistics network. Sometimes they take a little bit longer, sometimes they’re shorter. What we have maintained through this whole process is that this building was always part of our plans.”

The facility will serve as a “last-mile” distribution center, the final step in Amazon’s logistics chain before packages are loaded onto delivery vehicles for customers. As e-commerce continues to surge, the role of these last-mile facilities has become increasingly critical in ensuring fast, efficient deliveries.

For residents like the Sweat family, the facility’s opening is welcomed, especially for the job opportunities it could bring. While they are not personally looking for employment at the warehouse, both Taylor and Taya Sweat expressed their belief that the warehouse could provide good job prospects for others in the community.

“I feel like it would be a lot of potential for a lot of good jobs and warehouse workers,” said Taylor Sweat.

Taya Sweat added, “I feel like it’s just kind of pointless to be sitting there and taking up space and not any use for anybody when it could be really opening up tons of opportunities for jobs around here.”

Morris, too, has seen increased interest from locals regarding potential employment at the facility. “We have people coming into the office all the time interested in working at the facility,” he said.

As the facility nears its opening, local officials are optimistic about the economic impact the Amazon warehouse will have on the area, not only in terms of jobs but also the potential for increased business activity in the region.

With the promise of new jobs and Amazon’s continued expansion, it appears that the warehouse’s lengthy delay will soon give way to a bustling hub of activity in Marriott-Slaterville. Local residents, businesses, and city leaders alike are eager to see the building’s transformation from an empty structure into a critical piece of Amazon’s delivery network.
