OGDEN, Utah – Joshua Schoenenberger is pursuing an appeal to the Utah Court of Appeals of his conviction in the 2015 murder of a 2-year-old boy who suffered extensive blunt-force injuries. The Davis County Commission on Tuesday approved a contract with the State Indigent Defense Funds Board to pay attorney Scott L. Wiggins up to $80,000 to represent Schoenenberger, 40, of Layton, in the appeal.

OGDEN, Utah – In one of their first orders of business, Utah lawmakers on Tuesday are planning to honor LaWanna “Lou” Shurtliff, the Utah House member from Ogden who died late last month. Ross Chambless, spokesman for Utah House Democrats, said Monday that lawmakers will take up a resolution on Tuesday, the first day of the 2021 legislative session, touting her years of service. Gov. Spencer Cox, meantime, ordered that U.S. and Utah flags be lowered on Tuesday in honor of Shurtliff.
