Ogden, UT – A 31-year-old man was arrested in Cedar City last week after police say he raped a 14-year-old girl in his motor home while parked at a shopping center.
Luis A. Lopez was taken into custody on Thursday evening and booked into the Iron County Jail. He is facing multiple charges, including rape, object rape, forcible sodomy, possession of a controlled substance, furnishing alcohol to a minor, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
According to a police booking affidavit, the girl, who had run away from a group home in Iron County, met Lopez inside a large retail store in Cedar City.
She reportedly asked to use his phone, and Lopez then invited her to his motor home, which was located in the parking lot of the shopping center.
While inside the motor home, the girl claimed she was given an alcoholic beverage, a waxy substance resembling THC wax, and a vape suspected of containing nicotine.
The affidavit states that during her time in the vehicle, Lopez allegedly sexually assaulted her, prompting the serious charges.
Authorities have confirmed that Lopez was arrested after an investigation, and the case remains under review. The charges against Lopez reflect the severity of the allegations, and local law enforcement continues to examine the details surrounding the incident.
The arrest highlights the ongoing concerns about the safety of vulnerable minors and the dangers they may face when in unfamiliar situations.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Office has not provided further details at this time as the investigation unfolds.
