Ogden, UT – A fatal crash occurred early Friday morning on the exit ramp from I-15 southbound to I-84 near Riverdale, resulting in the death of one individual. The incident, which involved two vehicles—one of which was a semi-truck—took place just before 6 a.m.
According to Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) Lt. Cam Roden, the semi-truck’s driver had noticed a warning light on the vehicle’s dashboard, advising that the engine be shut down. In response, the driver pulled over and stopped in the gore area between the southbound I-15 exit and the merge to I-84 eastbound. At the time of the crash, road conditions were described as slushy.
A box truck was reportedly broken down in the gore area, when a Mini Cooper, traveling on the exit ramp, lost control and collided with the back of the truck. The impact struck the passenger side of the Mini Cooper.
Tragically, the 29-year-old driver of the Mini Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the semi-truck were unharmed in the crash.
As investigators worked to clear the wreckage and gather details, the exit ramp was closed for more than two hours, disrupting traffic in the area. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
