Ogden, UT – A fast-moving fire broke out early Sunday morning near the 9th Street Trailhead and Maxfield Drive in Ogden, Utah, threatening nearby homes and prompting a large multi-agency emergency response.
The blaze, which began shortly after 12:30 a.m. on July 7, quickly spread through dry vegetation fueled by gusty winds. More than 50 firefighters and 22 fire units from across the region responded to the scene, working through the early hours to contain the flames and protect residential properties.
Thanks to their swift and coordinated efforts, the fire was brought under control before it could spread further. However, several homes sustained damage, including one that was reported as severely affected. The American Red Cross is providing support to the displaced family.
Investigators determined the fire was sparked by fireworks discharged illegally in a restricted area after permitted hours. The incident remains under investigation.
In response, the Ogden City Fire Department issued a reminder to the public to follow all fireworks laws, avoid fire-restricted areas, and remain vigilant during high fire-risk conditions. Officials also expressed gratitude to the responding agencies and the community for their cooperation during the emergency.
