ROY, Utah — Two weeks into the investigation of a sexual assault allegation involving three Roy police officers, no formal case has yet been submitted to the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill confirmed Wednesday that his office has not received any reports related to the case. The alleged assault took place at Snowbird Resort, where the officers had been attending a Children’s Justice Symposium organized by the Utah Attorney General’s Office. The symposium included training on how to work with children who have experienced trauma and abuse.
Locals in Roy are eager for answers. Resident Brian Barker expressed the community’s desire for a swift resolution, emphasizing the importance of timely clarity when officers in positions of authority are involved.
“If they’re in an authority situation, the faster they know, the better off the community is,” Barker said.
Ethan Wilson, another Roy resident, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing hope for justice regardless of the outcome.
“If they can be cleared, they’ll be cleared as soon as possible,” Wilson said. “And if not? Then hopefully justice will prevail.”
The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, which is leading the criminal investigation, reported no new updates as of Wednesday. A spokesman stated that the department would release further statements once additional information becomes available, aiming to address public questions.
Attempts by 2News to gain comment from Roy’s mayor and city council members, including a council liaison to the police department, were met with caution. Mayor Bob Dandoy said discussing the case before the conclusion of investigations would be speculative and potentially harmful.
Questions regarding any previous complaints against the officers, disciplinary actions, or whether the officers had provided DNA samples to investigators were not answered by the Sheriff’s Office or Roy Police Department.
Initially, four Roy officers were placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. One officer has since returned to duty after it was determined he was not involved. The Roy Police Department has stated it is cooperating fully with the criminal probe while also conducting an internal investigation.
As the investigation continues, the community awaits more information on what transpired at Snowbird and the next steps in the process.
