KANAB, Utah — Kanab Police Chief Thomas Cram has pleaded guilty to striking a pedestrian with his vehicle while on duty. The incident occurred on November 18, 2024, when Chief Cram was driving along 300 South in Kanab and hit a 58-year-old man who was crossing the street at a marked crosswalk.
Cram claimed that the sun obstructed his view, leading to the collision. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries ranging from moderate to serious. As of three months after the incident, the man’s current condition remains unknown.
The Utah Highway Patrol conducted the investigation into the accident. On February 7, 2025, Chief Cram entered a guilty plea through a plea in abeyance, which allows for the charges to be dismissed after a specified period if no further violations occur. Cram was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian’s right of way.
This incident has raised concerns about pedestrian safety in the area, though no additional details about any potential changes to local traffic regulations have been announced.
