OGDEN, Utah — A major structure fire broke out at an apartment building under construction in Ogden on Saturday afternoon, prompting a significant response from local fire crews.
The fire occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. on January 25, 2025, on 22nd Street, situated between Grant Avenue and Lincoln Avenue. Ogden Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene to find a five-story building engulfed in heavy flames and thick smoke. Firefighters immediately worked to contain the blaze to the area of origin, but the fire spread to a neighboring vacant building just west of the construction site. Fire crews quickly extinguished the flames at the adjacent structure before it could spread further.
The fire’s intensity disrupted power in the surrounding area. Rocky Mountain Power confirmed that one of its power poles was affected by the blaze. As a precautionary measure, the utility company de-energized two substations. While power was restored to the east side substation by Saturday night, the western substation remained offline, leaving nearly 3,000 customers without electricity.
Despite the severity of the fire, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported. More than 40 firefighters responded to the scene, working quickly to control the situation and prevent further damage.
At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
