GREEN RIVER, Utah — A 34-year-old man was taken into custody Friday evening after running through a Green River neighborhood carrying a machete and claiming he was being pursued, authorities said.
According to the Emery County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded after receiving multiple calls from residents reporting a man knocking on doors and seeking help, stating that someone was chasing him.
Louis Sayna told officers he had been riding a Greyhound bus when a group of individuals attempted to force him into actions against his will. He said he fled the bus stop and ran into the nearby neighborhood.
When asked about the machete, Sayna said he had dropped it in the grass near a home where children were playing.
A records check revealed Sayna had an active warrant for his arrest out of Washington state.
During a search, deputies found a glass pipe consistent with methamphetamine use, along with a small bag containing a white crystalline substance. Sayna admitted the substance was methamphetamine and reported ingesting it about an hour before the police arrived.
Sayna was booked into the Emery County Jail on charges including third-degree felony possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, Class A misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, and Class B misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
