ST. GEORGE, Utah — A fugitive who led law enforcement officers on a high-speed motorcycle pursuit died after colliding with a vehicle on Sunday afternoon.
Just before 3:30 p.m., the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team, led by the U.S. Marshal Service, was attempting to locate Boyd Paul Brooke, 41, a known fugitive with a history of operating stolen vehicles and evading police. The team received information that Brooke was riding a motorcycle eastbound on Sunset Drive near Dixie Drive in St. George.
A Washington County sheriff’s deputy, part of the apprehension team, quickly responded to the area and spotted Brooke. The deputy attempted to pull the motorcyclist over, but Brooke failed to stop and continued to flee. He traveled onto northbound Westridge Drive, disregarding oncoming traffic, and allegedly looked back at the deputy, showing he was aware of the pursuit.
Brooke continued to evade capture as he sped through intersections, running stop signs and driving at speeds exceeding 65 miles per hour. At one point, he crossed into oncoming traffic on 1400 West to overtake another vehicle making a right turn.
As Brooke approached Snow Canyon Parkway, the traffic lights turned red, but he did not stop. Instead, he moved from the left turn lane to the right turn lane, where he collided with a mini-van.
The deputy immediately exited his vehicle and found Brooke unresponsive. Medical personnel were called to the scene, and life-saving efforts were attempted, but Brooke was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Investigations revealed that the motorcycle Brooke was riding had been reported stolen in 2023. Authorities also confirmed that Brooke was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
This incident remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The authorities have yet to release additional details regarding the pursuit or the crash, pending further investigation.
