OGDEN, Utah — On Monday, a group of people honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a “unity caravan” in Ogden.
The folks at the Ogden branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) usually hold a march, but they changed course due to the pandemic.
Ogden Police escorted the caravan from the Marshall White Center through the community.
Organizers say it’s encouraging to see people come together to celebrate the values and principles Dr. King embodied.
“I do anticipate even more people — not just today, but moving forward the rest of the year — because we don’t look at this event as just one day. This is a new year, a new opportunity, and we’re hoping we get new commitments from people,” said Betty Sawyer, president of the Ogden NAACP branch.
