MIDVALE, Utah — A dramatic standoff unfolded early Friday morning on State Street in Midvale, as a suspect barricaded himself inside a dump truck following an attempted traffic stop. Unified Police officers had initiated the stop around 3:20 a.m. but the suspect fled the scene, leading officers on a brief pursuit before ultimately hiding in the vehicle at the intersection of 7400 South and Cox Lane.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact reason for the initial traffic stop, nor whether the suspect was armed. However, Unified Police Public Information Officer Aymee Race indicated that the situation prompted a shelter-in-place order for residents in the surrounding area, as well as an evacuation warning.
State Street was closed between 7200 South and 7500 South during the incident, which caused significant disruption to traffic. Law enforcement officers remained on the scene for several hours as negotiations with the suspect continued.
At this time, no further details have been released regarding the suspect’s identity or any potential charges. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are expected to provide additional updates as the situation develops.
Residents in the affected areas were advised to remain vigilant and follow local law enforcement directives.
