Provo, Utah — A Provo man is in custody after the body of a woman who had been missing for several weeks was discovered in a shed at an apartment complex on Sunday afternoon.
Lesa Hyde, 53, was reported missing in January, and her remains were found on Sunday in a shed located behind a home near 750 West and Heather Lane in Provo. Authorities have identified the man arrested in connection with Hyde’s death as 53-year-old Arthuro Carrion.
According to court documents obtained by FOX 13 News, police received a tip around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday from a caller who directed officers to a dead body inside a shed and claimed that Carrion was responsible for the woman’s death. Upon arrival, officers found two locked sheds behind the apartment complex, and Carrion was seen standing near a BBQ grill in the front yard.
The landlord of the apartment complex informed officers that the sheds were not part of the rental agreements for the tenants, and the residents were not permitted to store personal belongings there. With the landlord’s consent, officers proceeded to cut the locks and enter the sheds.
As police began attempting to cut the locks, a resident from the complex approached and instructed Carrion to hand over the key. Carrion complied and allegedly told officers, “you’ll find a dead body inside.”
Once inside the shed, investigators immediately noticed the unmistakable smell of decomposition. They discovered multiple bags inside, one of which contained a human forearm. Police secured the scene and contacted the caller who first reported the body. The tipster confirmed hearing about the death from a separate individual.
Through further investigation, officers identified the witness and learned that Carrion had confided in him the previous day, admitting to having “done something wrong.” The witness stated that when he asked Carrion what had happened, Carrion mentioned the name “Lesa” and pointed toward the shed.
The witness later revealed that Hyde had been Carrion’s former girlfriend, and he noted that Carrion had a history of domestic violence, including an arrest in November for an alleged incident involving Hyde. Carrion had previously been a person of interest in Hyde’s disappearance.
As authorities took Carrion into custody, he was heard telling officers, “Should have never told that snitch.” Witnesses also reported hearing Carrion refer to “pulling a Rick,” a reference to a family member who had been convicted of murdering his girlfriend in the past.
When Carrion was placed under arrest, he reportedly blamed his situation on a specific officer, saying, “Officer Andrews is the one who caused all this,” a statement that police believe was tied to Carrion’s earlier domestic violence arrest.
Carrion is currently facing charges related to the death of Lesa Hyde, though further details have yet to be released by law enforcement as the investigation continues.
