OGDEN, Utah— Rescue teams are continuing their search for a 14-year-old boy who fell through the ice while ice fishing at Glasmann Pond on Monday, January 27.
According to Mike McBride, a spokesperson for Ogden City, two teenagers were reportedly ice fishing at the pond when the ice suddenly gave way. Officials received the call at approximately 4:30 p.m. that the teens had fallen into the frigid waters.
One of the teens, a 15-year-old male, was able to rescue himself and make his way to the bank, where he was later taken to the hospital to be treated for minor hypothermia. Unfortunately, the 14-year-old did not resurface, prompting an immediate response from rescue teams.
The pond, located just outside of Ogden, is approximately six to 10 feet deep, and the ice surface had remained frozen, despite the dangerously cold temperatures. Dive teams were deployed to search for the missing teen, but efforts to locate him have so far been unsuccessful.
The Weber Fire District, Ogden City Fire, and Riverdale Fire crews responded to the scene, with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue also joining the operation. Despite hours of search efforts, the 14-year-old remains unaccounted for.
The search is ongoing, with authorities urging residents to stay clear of the area to allow rescue teams to conduct their work. The incident highlights the dangers of ice fishing, particularly in the winter months when conditions can change rapidly.
As of now, no additional details regarding the teen’s whereabouts have been released. The search continues, and officials are asking for the public’s patience as they work to locate the missing teenager.
