TOOELE, Utah — A serious crash on Interstate 80 near Tooele left one person critically injured after their vehicle collided with a semi-truck and caught fire on Sunday afternoon.
According to Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), the incident occurred just after 4:30 p.m. near milepost 24, when a small SUV traveling westbound struck the rear of a semi-truck that was pulling a trailer. The impact caused the SUV to slide underneath the truck, and the vehicle subsequently caught fire.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and the driver of the SUV was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Fortunately, there were no reports of additional injuries from the crash.
UHP officials have not released the identity of the driver or any further details regarding their condition at this time. Investigators are continuing to assess the cause of the crash.
