SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — A 15-year-old South Jordan girl who had been missing since late April has been found safe in Colorado Springs, officials confirmed Sunday night.
Alisa Petrov, who disappeared on April 21 after being seen on security footage leaving a train platform in Provo, turned herself in to the Colorado Springs Police Department earlier that evening. Sgt. Shaun Becker of the South Jordan Police Department confirmed the teenager was in good health and safe.
Details about how Petrov traveled to Colorado or whether she was held against her will have not been disclosed. Utah police cited their policy on juvenile privacy in declining to release additional information about her whereabouts or circumstances during the time she was missing.
According to a social media post by Petrov’s father, Nikolai Petrov, the teenager voluntarily walked into the police substation in Colorado Springs and turned herself in.
“We are relieved she’s safe,” said Sgt. Becker, who noted detectives are actively working to reunite Petrov with her family. The family told KUTV they were on their way to be reunited with her.
In a recent interview with KUTV, Nikolai Petrov said the family prioritized finding Alisa safely over any pursuit of legal action against others involved. “Obviously, it’s best if she just walked in the door and said ‘Hey, I’m back,’ that would be the best outcome,” he said.
The community and law enforcement officials alike have expressed relief at the safe return of the teenager after six weeks of uncertainty.
