SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Two men have been charged with felony murder after a fatal shooting during a dispute over a drug transaction.
Brandon Murphy, 29, and Noah Brady Angus, 27, were arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail following the incident, which took place Wednesday at a private residence.
According to the affidavit, Murphy, Angus, and an unidentified third man went to the victim’s home intending to retrieve money that had been previously paid for a drug deal. The affidavit states the men wore gloves, indicating they were prepared to take the money by force and aimed to avoid leaving fingerprints.
When the victim answered the door, he reportedly brandished a weapon. In response, Murphy fatally shot the man with a handgun. Murphy later told authorities that he brought the firearm “as a precaution” and only intended to use it to threaten the victim if the money was not returned.
Angus declined to speak with officers.
Both Murphy and Angus face first-degree felony murder charges as the investigation continues.
