West Valley City, Utah — Residents in West Valley City expressed unease after a man was reported to have gone door-to-door, allegedly asking a young girl to get into his car. The incident prompted a police investigation, but authorities determined that the man’s actions did not meet the legal threshold for a crime.
According to a spokesperson for the West Valley City Police Department, officers took a report after the incident was brought to their attention. While the man’s behavior was described as unusual and concerning, the police stated that no force or threats were used.
“When he had a conversation with the girl, he was across the street and she was behind a fence, so he was approximately 40 feet away and she was on the other side of a fence,” the spokesperson explained. “In that instance, where he was at such a great distance and unable to use force and did not use a threat of force, his actions would not constitute a crime.”
The department reiterated the importance of community vigilance and encouraged residents to report any suspicious behavior to local law enforcement.
Neighbors said they remain cautious and concerned about the safety of children in the neighborhood following the incident.
