OGDEN, Utah – Utah health officials reported a cumulative 5,042 new COVID-19 cases for New Year’s Day and Saturday, as well as 25 additional deaths. Of the total new cases, 3,110 would have been reported on Friday if not for the holiday, and 1,932 on Saturday, according to the Utah Department of Health. The new cases were confirmed out of 14,900 people tested. As expected, the state’s case counts and positive test rate have continued rising since the Christmas holiday.
