SALT LAKE CITY, UT — An 18-year-old man was arrested Friday night after causing a four-car crash in Salt Lake City while speeding and driving under the influence, according to Salt Lake City Police.
At approximately 8:50 p.m. on January 24, an officer with the Salt Lake City Police Department was en route to the Public Safety Building when they came upon the scene of the crash, which had just occurred. The officer immediately assessed the situation and determined that the suspect, later identified as Cesar Rojas, 18, was responsible for the collision.
According to police, Rojas was driving northbound on State Street at speeds significantly higher than the posted speed limit when he crashed into a vehicle that had been stopped at a red light. The force of the collision set off a chain reaction, involving a total of four vehicles.
Initial reports from authorities indicated that several people involved in the crash sustained injuries, though none appeared to be life-threatening. Emergency crews were quick to respond, and those injured were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Rojas, who showed signs of intoxication, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and several charges related to the crash. Police have not disclosed whether Rojas has been formally charged, and an investigation is ongoing.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of impaired and reckless driving, and authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and responsibility behind the wheel, particularly during nighttime hours.
