Ogden, UT — A 57-year-old Ogden man has been arrested after allegedly dousing a woman in gasoline and setting her on fire during a violent altercation early Friday morning.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Ogden Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home in the 2900 block of Lincoln Avenue around 1:53 a.m. on Friday following reports of a domestic assault. Emergency dispatchers reportedly heard a woman in the background of the call shouting that someone had thrown gasoline on her and set her on fire.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a woman standing in the street, suffering from severe burns to her face, chest, shoulder, and arm. The police report indicated that her hair had been singed and the injuries were likely to result in permanent disfigurement.
The victim told authorities she had been inside the home with a friend when Gregory Youngblood, the alleged assailant, entered the room. She reported that she had been upset about Youngblood joining her and her friend on a ride due to ongoing arguments between them. It was at this point, the woman said, that Youngblood poured gasoline on her and set her on fire.
A witness corroborated the woman’s account, stating that Youngblood also threw the victim to the floor and strangled her before fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement quickly initiated a search for Youngblood in the area, but he was not located immediately. Police later obtained a warrant to track his location through his cellphone records, which placed him in Riverdale. Around 10 p.m. Friday, Youngblood was taken into custody by the Weber Morgan Narcotics Strike Force after being located in the city.
At the time of his arrest, Youngblood was reportedly found in possession of a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, leading to an additional charge of drug paraphernalia possession.
Youngblood is facing multiple charges, including aggravated arson, a first-degree felony, and aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony. He is also facing a misdemeanor charge for the drug paraphernalia. As of Sunday afternoon, formal charges had not yet been filed, but Youngblood remains in the Weber County Jail without bail.
Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the victim, but police have indicated that her injuries are severe and may require long-term medical care. The incident has shocked the community, and local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violent attack.
