Salt Lake City, Utah — The dream of flying over rush-hour traffic in an electric air taxi is inching closer to reality, thanks to a groundbreaking partnership announced this week. BETA Technologies, a pioneering electric aircraft manufacturer, has teamed up with 47G | Utah Aerospace & Defense to bring air taxi services and charging infrastructure to the state.
The agreement, signed on Tuesday, marks a significant step in Utah’s push toward integrating aerial mobility into its transportation system. The electric air taxis, capable of carrying up to five passengers or 1,250 pounds of cargo, are designed to revolutionize travel in the state. According to BETA Technologies, the aircraft can charge in less than an hour and fly up to 350 miles per charge, with speeds reaching 155 miles per hour.
“We’re bringing airplanes out very shortly to start flying routes here,” said Kyle Clark, CEO and Founder of BETA Technologies. “We will put charging into the airports hopefully later this fall or early next year.”
The state’s ambitious vision for air taxis includes widespread usage by 2034, with the service expected to coincide with the Winter Olympic Games, which will be held in Utah. The initial focus will be on cargo and medical logistics, followed by passenger flights in the coming years.
