Woods Cross, UT — A Utah driver made a disturbing discovery Wednesday morning when his vehicle broke down on the side of Interstate 15 in Davis County. The body of a 73-year-old man was found wedged between a concrete barrier and a sound wall on the northbound lanes of I-15 near 2600 South in Woods Cross.
The discovery was made around 10:13 a.m. when the driver, who had pulled over due to car troubles, returned to the scene in an attempt to fix or tow his vehicle. According to officials from the Utah Highway Patrol, the driver noticed the body and immediately called 911.
Lt. Bryce Kohler of the Utah Highway Patrol confirmed that troopers responded quickly and secured the area, temporarily shutting down the right lane of the interstate for approximately three hours as investigators processed the scene.
Although the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are unclear, Kohler stated that all scenes are initially treated as potential homicides, even if there are no immediate signs of foul play or an obvious cause of death. “There were no obvious signs of trauma,” Kohler said, adding that the cause of death remains under investigation.
The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was carrying a bag that helped investigators confirm his identity. Kohler also mentioned that something connected to the bag indicated the man had been at the location for no more than a week, though he declined to provide further details on the item.
At this time, the driver who made the discovery is not considered a suspect, but rather a witness to the situation. Troopers noted that due to the body’s position, it would have been nearly impossible for passing drivers to spot it, highlighting the significance of the initial discovery.
Officials also noted that pedestrians are not uncommon on this stretch of the interstate, though it remains unclear whether the man was walking northbound or southbound at the time of his death. The Utah Highway Patrol plans to release the man’s identity once next of kin have been notified.
As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information about the case to come forward.
