STANSBURY PARK, Utah — A young girl is alive today thanks to the quick thinking and courageous actions of two bystanders who pulled her from Stansbury Lake and administered CPR Wednesday evening.
Just before 6 p.m., deputies from the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call reporting a possible drowning at the lake. According to officials, a group of young girls had been practicing swimming when two of them began struggling in the water.
Witnesses say one girl managed to regain control, but the other disappeared beneath the surface. A bystander, whose name has not been released, spotted the girl and quickly pulled her from the water. Alongside a second individual, the bystander immediately began CPR.
“After a few moments of CPR, the girl became responsive,” the sheriff’s office confirmed in a statement.
By the time emergency medical personnel arrived, the eight-year-old was conscious, talking, and alert. She was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and care.
Officials say the girl’s condition stabilized thanks to the rapid intervention.
The Tooele County Sheriff’s Office praised the efforts of the rescuers, stating, “Their willingness to step in without hesitation undoubtedly made a critical difference in today’s outcome.”
The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of open water, even during recreational activities, and the life-saving importance of bystander CPR.
Authorities have not released the identities of those involved but are encouraging the public to consider CPR training as a vital community skill.
