PROVO, Utah — Anthony Hamilton Beardall, 49, was charged Tuesday with threat of terrorism, a second-degree felony, and electronic communication harassment, following a series of alarming phone calls to the Missionary Training Center (MTC) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
According to court documents, on April 24, 2024, Beardall repeatedly called the MTC’s information line—making at least ten calls—and threatened to blow up the facility. During one call, Beardall reportedly warned, “You better shut down the [Missionary Training Center], or we’re going to blow your s*** out of the water, baby. Do you understand?”
The affidavit further states that Beardall directed profane and offensive language toward the center’s operators during these calls.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern. Authorities report that Beardall has a history of making threatening phone calls in the Provo area. In March 2024, he allegedly threatened to have buildings associated with the Provo Police Department “shut down and destroyed.” Days later, Beardall reportedly said he planned to drop a nuclear bomb on both the police department and the state.
More recently, on June 1, 2024, Beardall made a series of violent threats, including statements about “ripping a nuclear bomb through the state,” “murdering all the people himself,” “killing his three kids,” and “blowing the dispatcher up with a stick of dynamite.” On June 24, he allegedly threatened to “rip” through the police department with an AK-47.
Authorities noted that during a call to the police department on Tuesday, Beardall claimed to be homeless in Mexico and requested assistance in traveling to Switzerland.
Provo police continue to investigate the case. Beardall’s charges reflect the seriousness of threats made against public safety and community institutions.
