Ogden, UT – The Ogden Police Department is reminding residents to respect private property as warmer weather brings an increase in gatherings at business parking lots and other privately owned locations throughout the city.
In a recent public notice, the department said officers often see larger groups congregating on private property, particularly after business hours. Police noted that many properties in Ogden display Letter of Agency signs, which indicate that property owners have authorized officers to help address issues such as trespassing, disturbances, property damage, and individuals who refuse to leave.
According to the department, people who remain on private property without permission, especially when a business is closed or after they have been asked to leave, may face citations or criminal trespassing charges.
Police acknowledged that residents want places to gather but emphasized that parking lots and private business properties are not always appropriate locations, particularly when such activity affects business owners, customers, employees, nearby residents, or public safety.
The department said respecting private property helps support local businesses, safe neighborhoods, and public spaces that remain welcoming to the community.
Officials encouraged residents to follow posted signs, respect property owners and staff, and leave private property when requested by business personnel, property owners, or law enforcement officers.
The Ogden Police Department thanked community members for their cooperation in helping keep the city safe and respectful for everyone.
