The famous actor revealed that about two years ago, he battled a serious autoimmune disease. His struggle with this rare disorder affected his vision, ability to hear, and his balance for more than a year. After the video of him speaking about his autoimmune disorder went viral, the actor took to Twitter to clarify the situation and give an update on his health.
“Like two years ago, I had this weird, super rare form of vasculitis that, like, knocked out my vision, it knocked out my hearing, it knocked out, like, all my equilibrium,” in a sneak peek from Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge, Ashton Kutcher said, reports PageSix.
“It took me like a year to build it all back up,” the actor told Bear Grylls. The actor remarked that it is difficult to appreciate things you have until you lose them. “You don’t really appreciate it until it’s gone,” Kutcher shared. “Until you go, ‘I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to see again, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to hear again, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to walk again.” After Grylls admired his “strength through adversity,” Kutcher acknowledged that he is “lucky to be alive.”
The Jobs star claimed that now that he has overcome this scary health crisis, he won’t let any obstacle hinder his success. “The minute you start seeing your obstacles as things that are made for you, to give you what you need, then life starts to get fun, right?” said Kutcher. “You start surfing on top of your problems instead of living underneath them.”
After the video of Kutcher with Grylls speaking about his autoimmune disorder went viral, Kutcher took to Twitter to clarify the situation and give an update on his health. “Before there are a bunch of rumors/ chatter/ whatever out there. Yes, I had a rare vasculitis episode 3yrs ago. (Autoimmune flair-up) I had some impairments hear, vision, and balance issues right after. I fully recovered. All good. Moving on. See you at the 2022 NY Marathon w/Thorn,” he tweeted.
This is the first time Kutcher has opened up about his health condition. His wife, Mila Kunis, has spoken about Kutcher’s health conditions in October 2021 revealing that the actor “ended up in the hospital twice with pancreatitis” twice during the filming of the 2013 movie Jobs, per Us Weekly.
Speaking of Kutcher’s strength and resilience, Grylls said in the clip, “What do they say in survival? Storms make you stronger. And I think he’s living proof of that.”
