OGDEN, Utah – A man accused of stealing an ambulance in Ogden was arrested on a slew of charges Monday.
Mitchell Bryce May, 29, was booked into the Weber County Jail for theft of a vehicle, assault on a peace officer, intoxication, possession of a controlled substance and interfering with an arresting police officer, a probable cause affidavit states.
May reportedly stole an ambulance from Ogden Fire personnel, who responded the area of 468 3rd St. for a medical problem on Jan. 3. A second ambulance was called to the scene so a patient could be transported to the hospital.
The ambulance was recovered that same day, several hours after it was been abandoned near 597 7th St.
Video footage showed the suspect wearing a gray tank top with “Metal Mulisha” written on the front in white and black letters, according to the affidavit.
On Jan. 11, officers responded to the area of 1164 16th St. for an incident unrelated to the stolen ambulance. Residents said a visitor, identified as May, needed to leave because he was becoming “violent.” Police reportedly found methamphetamine at the scene and May, who appeared to be intoxicated.
Police tried to arrest May, but he pulled away and tried to retreat inside the residence. His efforts to escape were stopped when officers tackled him to the ground. The affidavit states May repeatedly kicked an officer and discharged a conductive energy device. No officers were struck by the device.
While May was booked into the Weber County Jail, an officer noticed he was wearing a “Metal Mulisha” shirt.
Based on video footage, officers were able to positively identify May as the ambulance theft suspect. During an interview, May said “that creeps the shit out of me” when police showed him photos of the theft, the affidavit states.
