Ogden, UT — Ogden-Hinckley Airport is set to undergo a significant expansion aimed at enhancing the passenger experience. On Monday, local officials, airport executives, and other dignitaries gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of a $4.4 million project, which they believe will modernize the airport and better serve travelers.
The expansion, funded by a mix of Federal Aviation Administration grants and city funds, will include a new terminal entrance, expanded drop-off and pick-up zones, improved pedestrian access, and a much-needed indoor baggage claim area. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2025.
Ogden Mayor Ben Nadolski expressed his confidence in the positive impact the upgrades would have on the airport, calling them essential to making the facility “more professional” and “inviting” for passengers. Airport Director Brian Condie echoed these sentiments, suggesting that the improvements could potentially attract more airlines and expand route offerings, further increasing the airport’s appeal.
The expansion comes nearly a year after Breeze Airways began providing commercial flights out of Ogden-Hinckley Airport, restoring air service that had been lost following the departures of Allegiant Air and Avelo Airlines in 2022. Currently, Breeze Airways offers flights to John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California.
Despite these recent developments, the airport has faced financial challenges in recent years. A state audit released in April 2023 revealed that the airport had experienced financial losses for 17 consecutive years. The audit called for more strategic planning to address these ongoing issues. City leaders have since described the audit as “precise and helpful” in shaping the future of the airport.
Mayor Nadolski remains optimistic, referring to the expansion as just the beginning of a broader vision for Ogden-Hinckley Airport. “This is the first step in many,” he said during the ceremony. “This airport has a really bright future. This community has a really bright future; this entire region of Utah has a bright future, and this airport is going to play a significant role.”
With construction set to be completed in the fall, officials are hopeful that the improvements will not only boost the airport’s image but also help foster growth for the surrounding region.
