Ogden, UT — A 26-year-old Ogden man has been charged with murder following a series of reckless hit-and-run accidents that resulted in one death and several serious injuries. Tyson Bryce Treasure was arrested on Friday after fleeing detox treatment at Ogden Regional Hospital while severely intoxicated, leading to a rampage that left the community reeling.
Treasure, who had a blood-alcohol level of 0.248—nearly five times the legal limit—arrived at the hospital for detox treatment but refused care before fleeing the facility in a Dodge Ram truck. According to court documents, Treasure’s actions quickly escalated into a string of accidents that began in the hospital parking lot and spread across the city.
The first incident occurred when Treasure struck a parked vehicle in the hospital lot, followed by damaging a fence on South Adams Avenue. He continued his erratic driving, causing collisions at various intersections, including 40th Street and Washington Boulevard and 42nd Street and Harrison Boulevard.
The most tragic event occurred at the intersection of 20th Street and Harrison Boulevard. Treasure collided with a Tesla and a Honda, pushing the Honda through a crosswalk and over 64-year-old James W. Wood, who was walking his dog. Wood was fatally injured in the crash, and the driver of the Honda sustained severe facial injuries.
Despite the damage to his vehicle, Treasure fled the scene, continuing his reckless driving until he T-boned another car at 12th Street and Harrison Boulevard. The crash disabled his truck and caused major injuries to the other driver, who suffered significant pelvic and lower extremity trauma.
Treasure was arrested shortly after the incident and was tested for alcohol again, showing a blood-alcohol level of 0.177. He now faces several charges, including murder, automobile homicide, two counts of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, and numerous hit-and-run violations.
James Wood’s death has left his family in shock. Jack Wood, the victim’s brother, shared that James was walking his dog at the time of the crash and was without a phone or wallet. Wood, a father of three and grandfather to a dozen grandchildren, was also the primary caretaker for his wife, who has disabilities. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses.
The charges against Treasure reflect the severity of his actions, with authorities labeling the incident a tragedy that has deeply affected the Ogden community. As the case moves forward, the family and community continue to mourn the loss of James Wood, whose death has left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
