OGDEN, Utah — A 17-year-old boy has tragically died after jumping into the Weber River and failing to resurface on Saturday evening. Authorities confirmed the boy passed away overnight, following a frantic search and rescue operation.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. near the 12th Street Airsoft field in Ogden, when deputies with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible drowning. Responding crews from the Weber Fire Department and Weber County Search and Rescue immediately began searching the area in hopes of locating the teen.
Divers found the boy about 90 minutes after the initial call came in. He was quickly airlifted by helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the teenager succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead overnight.
Sgt. Jensen of the Weber County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the teenager’s passing, offering condolences to the family during this difficult time. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers that rivers and other bodies of water can pose, especially during the warmer months when people are often drawn to the water for recreation.
