OGDEN, Utah – A Weber County man is facing several charges after being accused of forging his late wife’s will for his own financial benefit.
Jody Allen Rhorer, 43, was arrested on Christmas Eve for three felonies, including forgery, computer crimes and wrongful lien, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Rhorer reportedly made changes to his late wife’s registered agent information with Four Boys Investments, LLC through the Utah Department of Commerce on Nov. 23.
The affidavit states Rhorer made himself the principal agent, using his late wife’s login and password. He was not registered with the business prior to the woman’s death.
Authorities said Rhorer signed a document via electronic signature, claiming to be his late wife, and transferred ownership of multiple properties to his own name on Dec. 3.
In her will, the woman named her son as the executor and personal representative. Rhorer reportedly contested, but the Second District Court of Utah upheld the son as the executor.
On Dec. 16, Rhorer filed a new will for his late wife in the Second District Court, “which gave him the sole rights to all property and assets,” the affidavit states.
Authorities were notified and an investigation revealed the woman’s signatures had been forged, as well as the notary public signature and stamp.
Rhorer was arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail on Dec. 24.
As he was being booked, officers said Rhorer claimed to have dependents and no income. Officers later found that Rhorer owns a construction business, lives alone in a home worth over $1 million and has three children who do not live with him.
Officers requested he be held without bail because “he is believed to be a flight risk.”
The affidavit notes Rhorer has previously been charged and convicted for assault and domestic assault several times.
“He has engaged in intimidation and was charged with such. He has been driving by the victim’s residence every day for the last week, and has had a friend pose as a police officer to intimidate one of the victims in this case,” police wrote in the affidavit.
