OGDEN, Utah — An Ogden man faces a felony charge after police say he hit and killed a pedestrian, then drove away but returned to the scene a short time later.
Jesus Hernandez, 37, was charged Monday in 2nd District Court with leaving the scene of an accident involving death, a third-degree felony.
On June 5, a 57-year-old man in the road in the 3100 block of Washington Blvd. was hit by Hernandez’s SUV about 3 a.m., according to charging documents.
“Jesus struck the pedestrian, slowed slightly, then fled the scene in his vehicle. He made no attempt to stop and render aid to the pedestrian. He made no attempt to stop and leave his information. He made no attempt to call 911,” the charges state.
Hernandez did call family and friends, however, to tell them what had just happened, according to the charges. He told them he needed to return to the scene of the accident.
“Jesus did return on his own after approximately 15 minutes. By that time, police and fire units had arrived and the pedestrian was pronounced deceased,” the charges state.
