Ogden, UTAH – Ogden City lifeguards and firefighters took part in joint training to strengthen their coordination during pool emergencies and improve safety for swimmers.
Ogden City Government and Ogden City Recreation shared details of the training in a social media post, explaining that the teams practiced pool rescues, emergency handoffs and access procedures inside the building.
The exercise allowed lifeguards and firefighters to become more familiar with one another’s roles and how they would work together during an emergency. Crews also reviewed emergency access points and potential hazards within the facility.
Officials said the training focused on improving communication, building confidence under pressure and ensuring both teams can respond effectively when a swimmer needs help.
Pool emergencies can require multiple responders to act quickly, making coordination between lifeguards and firefighters an important part of preparedness. Practicing rescue procedures together helps teams understand how to transfer responsibility, access the scene and provide assistance as efficiently as possible.
The city emphasized that safety begins before an emergency occurs, with training helping responders prepare for situations that may require an immediate response.
“Safety starts before the sirens,” the city said in its post.
The joint exercise also gave lifeguards and firefighters an opportunity to learn from one another and identify potential challenges before an actual emergency arises.
Ogden officials said the goal is to improve how the teams respond together and help keep swimmers safe.
“Teamwork looks good on Ogden,” the city added.
