The sheer number of hot car deaths in the United States is a cause for concern. While a lot of children’s deaths in these scenarios are accidental, sometimes the intent is much more malicious than meets the eye. This incident sent a chill down people’s spines, as to how heartless a parent can be towards their own child.
19-year-old L. Parrott brought his unresponsive infant to the emergency sector of the CCUH. As officials conducted a preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s sudden death, the teenage father was only able to provide inconsistent information which raised suspicion.
The little boy identified by his mother’s friend as Kyler was left in the car for 5 hours. While his father initially claimed that the child’s death was an accident, he recanted his statement after surveillance video of him proving otherwise was produced by officials.
The footage showed Parrott leaving his home with baby Kyler at around 8:30 a.m. and did not return till around 1:50 p.m. in the afternoon. He told investigators that he was aware of how dangerous it can be leaving children in hot cars but he did not regardless because he “didn’t want to be disturbed.” In a press release by police chief Goodwin, it was stated that “the child passed away after being left in the car unattended for approximately 5 hours, with an outside temperature of 87 degrees.”
“During the interview, it appears that this was not a matter of forgetting the child but was a deliberate act so the child would not be a disturbance while in the house,” the statement mentioned. Parrott was arrested and is currently being held on a $250,000 bond. He is currently facing several charges that include, murder, involuntary manslaughter, and two counts of endangering children. Detective captain Norris noted that the interior of the car reached about 130 degrees and that little Kyler “was in there strapped into a car seat with no fluids, no air conditioning nothing.
The baby’s mother, Vanessa was at work at the time this heartbreaking incident took place. She is completely devastated at losing her son. Her friend has set up a GoFundMe page to help Vanessa with funeral expenses and any other costs she might encounter as she grieves her loss. “It’s heartbreaking to see this unfold before your eyes,” said Norris. “This is about this poor child and this poor mother who was just trying to work and pay bills and finding justice for both of them.” Kyler’s mother is now asking for justice for her son’s murder.
