Mother with dwarfism was told her baby wouldn’t live, ‘but then she gave birth to this’!

Laura and Nathan is a real-life fairy tale. The dwarfs met while acting in a version of Snow White. During the production, each actor portrayed a dwarf. Although the couple had not yet declared their wedding vows, Laura became pregnant. She conceived their first baby and Nathan Jr. was born as a “double dwarf.” A double dwarf is a person who has inherited both types of dwarfism from their parents. The birth of a double dwarf is an event that rarely takes place in Great Britain or any other country.

The family was called “Britain’s Shortest Family” by the media. However, physicians told the boy’s parents that his rare condition would cause him to die within a few hours after his birth. Doctors told her to consider an abortion after irregularities in scans lead doctors to think the youngster had inherited a deadly combination of genes. But Laura, who suffered complications throughout the pregnancy, ignored advice and decided to carry on the pregnancy. Even though Nathan Jr. faced tremendous odds, he managed to defy the dire medical predictions. Nathan Jr. was a happy, well-adjusted child. When he was 2 years old, the boy was the ring bearer at Laura and Nathan’s wedding.

But there is more to this captivating love story. Several years later, the couple welcomed their second child.  Laura has given birth to her second son, Jax. Laura told Daily Mail: “I’m so proud. Nath is as well. You know, he walked into the room and he just wanted to see him straight away. It was lovely. He adores him. I had to have a planned C-section and I chose Wednesday out of three possible options. We didn’t really know with Jax and the pregnancy and whether he would have dwarfism or not. We knew he was quite little after 20-something weeks, but we didn’t know which condition he had exactly.”

Because of Laura’s condition and the risks involved with the pregnancy, she had to receive a general anaesthetic. Doctors worked quickly to resolve Jax’s breathing issues, much to the relief of Laura and Nathan. Laura also said: “The anaesthetic had gone to Jax, so when he was born, all he wanted to do was sleep. It got to his breathing, he wouldn’t breathe on his own. He had to have oxygen and stuff. It then turned out he had an infection and he had to stay in intensive care and couldn’t be in the room with us.” Jax was able to return home with his parents just a few days after Laura’s C-section.
