Draper, Utah – A single-vehicle crash involving an SUV and trailer shut down three northbound lanes of Interstate 15 in Draper on Sunday afternoon, creating significant traffic delays in the area.
The incident, which occurred near 14200 South, was reported by the Utah Department of Transportation shortly before 11:30 a.m. on April 13. According to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden, the driver of a northbound SUV hauling a trailer began weaving through traffic before losing control. As a result, the trailer tipped over, landing on its side in the fourth lane of the five-lane highway.
Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, and in order to investigate and clear the wreckage, they closed lanes three, four, and five. The Utah Highway Patrol estimated that the affected lanes would be reopened between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., though the crash caused a two-mile traffic backup in the meantime.
Authorities did not report any serious injuries, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes as crews worked to clear the debris and restore normal traffic flow.
The incident highlights the challenges of driving with a trailer, especially when navigating through heavy traffic. It also serves as a reminder for drivers to remain cautious and aware of their surroundings, particularly when hauling large loads on busy highways.
