South Salt Lake, Utah — Authorities have arrested a man in connection with a homicide that occurred during a Saturday night shooting in South Salt Lake. Salman Ahmed, 21, was detained on Sunday, April 27, and taken into custody for questioning regarding the fatal shooting that took place at 11:40 p.m. near 2531 South and 400 East.
Ahmed, who was identified as a person of interest shortly after the shooting, was apprehended before 1 p.m. on Sunday without incident. A routine records check revealed a concerning criminal history, which includes multiple felonies and charges dating back to 2022.
In November 2023, Ahmed was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting at a 7-Eleven in Millcreek. The incident, which occurred on November 11, resulted in the death of 18-year-old Talib Ahmed. The altercation between rival gang members led to the tragic shooting. Salman Ahmed was charged with murder, obstruction of justice, and several counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm in connection with the incident.
Less than a year later, in July 2023, Ahmed was involved in another criminal episode. This time, an undercover operation revealed that he was offering cocaine for sale through social media. After negotiating a drug deal via the platform, Ahmed agreed to meet an undercover officer in the parking lot of Layton High School. Following the transaction, surveillance agents tracked Ahmed’s vehicle, leading to a traffic stop after he was observed committing multiple traffic violations.
When confronted by officers, Ahmed fled the scene at a high rate of speed, prompting a pursuit involving Utah Highway Patrol troopers. The chase eventually ended at a rest stop in Kaysville, where Ahmed was seen discarding a fanny pack into nearby brush. Police later recovered the pack, which contained a fully loaded firearm and cocaine. Despite attempts to flee again, Ahmed was arrested. A search revealed he was wearing an ankle monitor as he was on pretrial release for the 2022 Millcreek murder case. He was subsequently charged with a range of offenses, including distribution of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and several other felonies and misdemeanors.
The arrest of Ahmed in connection with the South Salt Lake shooting raises further concerns about his involvement in criminal activities. Law enforcement officials continue to investigate his role in the Saturday night shooting. Given his extensive criminal background, it remains to be seen whether the charges in this latest case will lead to additional legal consequences for Ahmed.
Authorities have not released further details about the shooting incident, but the investigation is ongoing. Residents of South Salt Lake remain on edge as the case unfolds, with many hoping for justice in the wake of the violent act.
This arrest marks the latest chapter in a series of troubling incidents involving Salman Ahmed, whose criminal activities have spanned several years and raised alarm among law enforcement officials.
