Lehi, Utah — A multi-vehicle crash involving a cement truck, a diesel truck, and an SUV caused significant delays Friday morning near the intersection of Pioneer Crossing and Mill Pond Road, close to Interstate 15.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m., leading to lane closures that lasted several hours before authorities were able to clear the scene and reopen the road.
According to the Lehi Police Department, the driver of the SUV sustained serious injuries but was reported to be in stable condition. No information was released regarding injuries to the drivers of the heavy trucks.
Sgt. Tyler Prawitt of the Lehi Police Department emphasized the dangers posed by crashes involving large commercial vehicles.
“Any kind of crash is dangerous, especially with heavy trucks,” Sgt. Prawitt said.
Initial investigations revealed that both the cement truck and the diesel truck were traveling westbound on Pioneer Crossing. The cement truck maintained its lane but collided with the diesel truck, causing a chain reaction that involved the SUV.
“The cement truck was able to maintain line of travel but crashed into the semi truck, which then collided with the third vehicle,” Sgt. Prawitt explained.
Authorities have ruled out speed, drugs, and alcohol as contributing factors in the crash. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution when traveling through the area, especially around heavy trucks and construction zones.
