RIVERTON, Utah — A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody Wednesday evening after allegedly shooting his uncle three times following an argument, authorities said.
Officers with the Riverton Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 6:30 p.m. near 13480 South Homestead Lane. According to police spokesperson Josh Lee, the suspect and his 35-year-old uncle were involved in a verbal dispute that escalated outside, spilling into the front yard.
During the confrontation, the teenager reportedly pulled out a firearm and shot his uncle three times. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive.
The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended near the border of Riverton and Herriman shortly after.
Police confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public as the investigation continues.
