INDIANOLA, Utah — A 68-year-old man was killed Thursday afternoon in a head-on collision on US Highway 89 near mile marker 293 in Sanpete County, approximately six miles south of Birdseye.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the driver of a southbound Chevrolet Tahoe is suspected to have suffered a medical emergency while driving. The vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a northbound semi-truck.
The driver of the Tahoe was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver, a 62-year-old man, sustained minor injuries.
The crash caused the closure of US Highway 89 in both directions for several hours, prompting authorities to advise motorists to seek alternate routes while emergency crews responded.
Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
