Ogden, UT – Ogden City Government shared a reminder to residents about proper recycling practices, emphasizing that keeping materials clean helps maintain affordability across the program.
City officials said when non-accepted items, food waste, or unclean containers are placed in recycling carts, entire truckloads can be rejected and sent to the landfill, increasing overall costs.
Residents are encouraged to follow a few key steps to help the program run smoothly, including placing accepted items loose in carts rather than in bags, rinsing containers before recycling, and keeping plastic bags out of recycling bins because they can jam sorting equipment.
If residents are unsure whether an item is recyclable, officials recommend placing it in the regular refuse cart.
