Ogden, UT – A 23-year-old Salt Lake man has been charged with multiple serious felonies after allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl in April 2022. Tyler James Webb faces charges of child kidnapping, rape of a child, sodomy upon a child, three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, and aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, all first-degree felonies.
He is also charged with aggravated child abuse, a second-degree felony. The incident occurred on April 13, 2022, when the young girl was doing chores at her home. According to court documents, the girl’s sister contacted Webb and asked him to pick the child up. Details of how the sister knew Webb or whether she had prior knowledge of his actions remain unclear. When Webb arrived at the residence, he allegedly placed the girl in the trunk of his car.
He then drove her to a car wash, where he sexually assaulted her using one of the vacuums. The victim attempted to escape, but Webb reportedly slapped and choked her before forcing her back into the trunk. Webb continued the assault, driving the girl to a mountainous area where he placed her near a cliff and sexually assaulted her again. Court documents further allege that Webb took the girl to his father’s residence, where she once again tried to flee.
However, Webb caught her, tied her up, and sexually assaulted her two more times. The charges also state that Webb took the victim to the Utah State Capitol, where he took inappropriate photographs of her. The Taylorsville Police Department is investigating the case, although the timeline of when authorities became aware of the allegations and why charges were filed more than a year later remains unclear.
Prosecutors have requested that Webb be held in the Salt Lake County Jail without the possibility of posting bail, citing the gravity of the charges and the need to protect the victim. Webb’s arrest has shocked the community, and many await further details as the legal process unfolds.
