WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — A 20-year-old man is facing an attempted murder charge following a violent stabbing at an addiction recovery center in Wasatch County. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, April 30, has left one patient with serious injuries.
According to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the facility after receiving reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim had been airlifted to the University of Utah Medical Center with multiple stab wounds.
Staff members at the recovery center informed authorities that the suspect, Hunter Ryan Kluser, was a voluntary patient at the facility. Surveillance footage reviewed by law enforcement allegedly shows Kluser walking up behind the victim, who was seated in a common area, before suddenly attacking him with a knife. The victim reportedly attempted to defend himself as Kluser struck him multiple times in the neck.
The attack left the victim with at least six stab wounds, prompting immediate medical intervention. Thanks to a quick response from both the facility’s staff and emergency responders, the victim was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.
Kluser was apprehended at the scene and arrested without further incident. He has since been charged with attempted murder. Investigators are working to determine the motive behind the attack, as it was reportedly unprovoked, with no prior indications of violent behavior from Kluser.
The incident has sparked concern regarding safety protocols at addiction recovery centers, particularly regarding the potential risks posed by patients in vulnerable states. Authorities are exploring whether any mental health factors played a role in the attack.
The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office has assured the public that the investigation is ongoing, and they are committed to ensuring justice for the victim. The recovery center has stated that it is fully cooperating with authorities and reviewing its security measures in light of the violent incident.
