BLUFFDALE, Utah — A fatal rollover crash on I-15 near Bluffdale has led to significant traffic disruptions, with one person confirmed dead and multiple vehicles involved in the incident. The crash occurred just before noon at the Point of the Mountain, impacting traffic flow between Utah County and Salt Lake County.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the crash involved several vehicles, including an SUV that rolled over. The driver of the SUV sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Troopers from the Utah Highway Patrol responded quickly to the scene and are conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash. In the meantime, authorities have closed the right four lanes of traffic, leaving only two lanes open in the direction of Salt Lake County. This has caused a significant traffic backup, with delays stretching nearly three miles from the Point of the Mountain past 2100 North.
The Utah Department of Transportation’s online traffic monitor reports the closure is expected to last for approximately three hours, with an estimated reopening time of 3 p.m. As a result, commuters are advised to seek alternate routes, such as Redwood Road, to avoid the congestion.
Officials urge drivers to exercise caution and to stay informed about road conditions as the investigation continues. The Utah Highway Patrol will continue to provide updates on the status of the road closure and any new developments related to the incident.
