Ogden, UT — A man was shot multiple times on Wednesday morning following a confrontation with another man who had attempted to assist him, the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The incident occurred near Burmester Road and I-80 outside Grantsville. Authorities said two individuals were flying drones when a car, visibly damaged, pulled up nearby. The driver of the car appeared injured and disoriented.
One of the drone operators stayed behind to call 911, while the other approached the driver to offer help.
According to the sheriff’s office, the man who approached the driver noticed alcohol in the vehicle, which led to a verbal altercation.
The driver then reportedly exited the car, drawing a gun that was secured on his hip. In response, the man who had approached the driver pulled out his own firearm, and shots were exchanged.
The driver was struck multiple times and was quickly flown to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Authorities confirmed he remains unconscious and in serious condition.
The two individuals flying drones at the time of the incident remained at the scene and have fully cooperated with investigators.
No arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed as of yet. Law enforcement officials are awaiting a statement from the injured driver to better understand the events that led to the shooting.
The sheriff’s office assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to safety, and the investigation into the cause of the confrontation is still underway.
