Man Arrested on Suspicion of Voyeurism, Sexual Exploitation of a Minor at Riverton Gym

RIVERTON, Utah — A 36-year-old man has been arrested on multiple charges, including voyeurism and sexual exploitation of a minor, after a disturbing incident at a local gym involving an underage girl.

Justan Grover, of Riverton, was taken into custody Sunday following an investigation launched after a 17-year-old girl reported that someone had been taking photos or videos of her while she was partially nude inside a tanning booth at VASA Fitness, located at 1777 W. 12600 South. The girl’s father alerted police after his daughter described the harrowing encounter, which occurred while she was preparing to use the tanning bed.

According to the victim, she noticed a phone peeking out from a gap between the wall and the floor of the booth as she undressed. She screamed, and the phone was quickly withdrawn. However, shortly afterward, the camera was aimed at her again. She screamed once more, prompting the suspect to retreat.

The police investigation began with a review of security footage from the gym, which showed Grover entering and exiting the tanning and massage area multiple times within a time frame consistent with the victim’s account. Authorities observed Grover sitting in a chair after the first incident, apparently swiping through photos on his phone while attempting to conceal the device from view.

After a search warrant was served at the gym, Grover was identified as the man on the footage. Upon further investigation, authorities discovered nude photos of minors on his phone, as well as disturbing text messages where Grover allegedly asked someone to send explicit images of minors.

An acquaintance of Grover reportedly told police that he had confessed to filming the teenager at the gym. While authorities have not yet found any footage from the incident involving the victim, they have seized multiple electronic devices from Grover and are planning a forensic examination of his phone and other devices.

Grover was booked on one misdemeanor count of voyeurism and one felony count of sexual exploitation of a minor. He was ordered to be held without bail pending further investigation. Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, and there is a high likelihood that additional charges may be filed as new evidence is uncovered.

The case has raised serious concerns about the safety and privacy of individuals, especially minors, in public spaces. Authorities are urging anyone with further information about Grover’s activities to come forward as they continue their investigation.
