PARK CITY, Utah — A 40-year-old man is facing felony theft charges after stealing snowboards from a Park City lodge and attempting to sell them online.
William Richard Ryan was arrested on two third-degree felony counts of theft after deputies with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the incident. On Friday, the Hilton Grand Vacations Club Sunrise Lodge reported that three snowboards, complete with bindings, had been stolen. Surveillance footage from the lodge showed a man, later identified as Ryan, taking two of the three boards.
The owners of the stolen snowboards later discovered their property listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace, where Ryan had posted them. The sheriff’s office contacted Ryan and arranged to purchase the snowboards. Using receipts, photos, and serial numbers provided by the owners, deputies were able to confirm the snowboards were indeed the stolen items.
In an interview with deputies, Ryan admitted to stealing the snowboards, explaining that he had been desperate for money after his wallet was stolen. He also disclosed the location of the third snowboard and other stolen items, including skis. However, when questioned about the origin of the other stolen goods, Ryan claimed he could not remember where they had come from.
Ryan was arrested and booked into Summit County Jail on the felony theft charges. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
